Bardenas reales

To the south east of Navarra stretches a vast expanse of more than 40,000 hectares where nature has imaginatively shaped the landscape, transforming it into a spectacular setting.

Located in the midst of the Ebro depression, the "Natural park of Bardenas Reales" is characterised by its limited human presence, a climate of arid character and a geology based on eroded soft materials that give the place a magical and surprising appearance.

The Bardenas are home to a rich fauna known for its rarity, steppe birds and a surprising vegetation cover adapted to drought and salinity.

The main objective of this tour is to visit different environments of the Bardenas Reales, such as steppe zones, valleys and forests, discovering its unique flora and fauna. Also to get an idea of the uniqueness and variety of this still little-known region.

Bird-watching and studying nature is a fascinating activity. Birds have changing seasonal plumages and frequent certain habitats. Each species behaves in a particular way and makes characteristic sounds. Many live in places of great natural beauty. All this makes the identification of each species an adventure and a challenge for the observer. Each outcome is different and can be full of surprises.

The following list is merely indicative and shows some of the spectacular or interesting birds present in the places we visit. Of course there are many more species that may appear before our eyes and, once in a while, you’ll be surprised by observing rare species or unusual birds. Photography, bird guides and binoculars or telescopes will help us positively identify many of the birds that we will observe.
